Room & Book is delighted to present a collection of rare books and catalogues as guest of Domobaal during London Gallery Weekend 4–6 June 2021.
Coinciding with Lothar Götz’s SALVATION and the installation of Kristaps Ancāns’ ‘Have we all learned how to be human at home?’, the selection focuses on British and European Modernism between 1932 and 1971. Highlights include Oskar Schlemmer’s Man: Teaching Notes from the Bauhaus; the 1952 edition of Bauhaus 1919-1928 edited by Herbert Bayer, Walter Gropius and Ise Gropius; as well as a complete set of the 1930s Architectural journal, Focus, a key periodical of the British modern movement edited by students of London’s Architectural Association between 1938 and 1939. The collection also includes important Kurt Schwitters books published by the Gaberbocchus Press; the hard-to-find reprint of the 1930s French art journal Abstraction-Création; as well as the first three issues of Ark, the magazine of the Royal College of Art – issue one dedicated to book illustration with contributions by John Minton and John Nash, issue two “Political and Religious Art” and issue three “Domestic Art”.
