Arthur McIntyre studied at the National Art School and Alexander Mackie College, Sydney (1963-66) and the University of Sydney (1971-73). He exhibited regularly from 1970 until his death in 2003 as well as publishing important books on contemporary Australian drawing and collage. A major two-part exhibition ‘Arthur McIntyre: Bad Blood 1960-2000’ curated by Daniel Mudie Cunningham was presented at Hazelhurst Regional Gallery and Macquarie University, Sydney in 2010.

McIntyre's work is held in numerous public collections throughout Australia, including the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra; Art Gallery of New South Wales Sydney; Queensland Art Gallery, Brisbane; National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne; Art Gallery of Western Australia, Perth; Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney; Heide Museum of Modern Art, Bulleen, Victoria; Artbank, Sydney; and numerous private and corporate collections.
