First Edition first printing of the rare title ‘Aircraft’ by seminal French modernist architect, Le Corbusier. In 1935 Le Corbusier was commissioned by The Studio to produce a book celebrating the design of the aeroplane, then a relatively new technology developed by the Wright Brothers 32 years earlier. Aircraft was part of The Studio’s New Vision series which focused on cutting-edge design and ideas. Intended as a study of the industrial design of aircraft, Le Corbusier extended the scope of the book to view the phenomenon of flight from a cultural and social perspective. The book was complied and written by Le Corbusier and includes 124 monochrome plates. From the collection of the British artist Bernard Meyers (1925–2007).
