Cross Reference 2 (1976) catalogue of the second of two exhibitions with this title organised by Malcolm Hughes between 1975-1976, the first of which grew out of an exhibition held at the invitation by Dr Stephen Bann in 1975 at The University of Kent, Canterbury. This, the second exhibition, was held at The Concourse Gallery, The Polytechnic of Central London in 1976 (where Hughes taught part time in the School of Architecture). The exhibition included current and recent graduates of the Slade School of Fine Art: Ed Winters, Cliff Haynes, Dick Plank, Ray Masters, Chris Welsby, Irene Rhoden, Tony Hill and Jim Savage.

The exhibition came around two years after Hughes, who was a co-founder of the Systems Art group, had established the Experimental Department (later renamed the Experimental and Computing Department ) at The Slade School of Fine Art where he was head of Postgraduate Studies. In 1974 the department acquired a dedicated Data General Nova 2 Minicomputer, precipitating an important period in the development of Artificial Intelligence in the Arts in the UK.

The catalogue includes an introduction by Malcolm Hughes, a three page text by Dick Plank, a two page text by Cliff Haynes with accompanying drawing, a text by Irene Rhoden outlying her River Thames photographic project, a text and two drawings by Ed Winters based on principles of trigonometry,  a statement of intention and drawing by Chris Welsby concerned with formal methods of film construction using weather phenomena as input, a text and drawing by Tony Hill concerning work of the recent past and near future, a text and four drawings by Jim Savage, a text and drawing by Ray Masters.
