Ten page price list of an exhibition of abstract design (pictures, sculpture, prints and table linen) by thirteen artists held at Heal’s Picture Gallery and Craftsman’s Market in 1955 in collaboration with Porthia Prints. An important event in the development of the St. Ives School and a rare case of collaboration between St. Ives artists in the Post-War years. No images.

Denis Mitchell formed the company Porthia Prints in the early 1950s as a means of gaining funds and publicity for the group of artists who were gaining notoriety in St. Ives. Along with his brother who was co-director, Mitchell invited artists working in St. Ives to submit designs for screen-printed linen table mats. The artists included were William Gear, Terry Frost (who assisted Mitchell with the printing) Peter Lanyon, Michael Snow, John Forrester, Wilhelmina Barns-Graham, John Wells, Stanley Dorfman, Barbara Hepworth, Roger Hilton, Patrick Heron, Dennis Mitchell, Robert Adams. Later Alexander Mackenzie, Trevor Bell and Agnes Drey were also producing designs for Porthia.  13 designs were selected and an exhibition was presented in March 1955 at Heal’s Picture Gallery and Craftsman’s Market opened by Philip James, then Director of Art at the Arts Council.
