The 114 pages of this special October 1983 issue of Libération were dedicated solely to Jean Cocteau to mark the twentieth anniversary of his death on the 11th of October 1963. The cover was designed especially for this issue by Andy Warhol (he him self would die just four years later) after a photograph by Gisèle Freund. The issue includes innumerable photographs of Cocteau, his lovers, his wider circle and his work, including two double page spreads of the erotic drawings for The White Paper. Also including photographs by Brassaï, Herbert List, Raymond Voinquel, Man Ray, Roger Corbeau, Serge Lido, Philippe Halsmann. Libération, popularly known as Libé is a daily newspaper in France, founded in Paris by Jean-Paul Sartre and Serge July in 1973 in the wake of the protest movements of May 1968.
