Poster – Mark Boyle: Journey to the Surface of the Earth (continued), Serpentine Gallery, 1975.

£60.00

Showing concurrently with the Richard Hamilton show, the Serpentine Gallery held a one-man exhibition of the work of Scottish-born artist Mark Boyle (1934-2005). This show, Boyle’s first in London for several years, displayed pieces from his series Journey to the Surface of the Earth. These works took the form of his now iconic replicas of various small segments of the world. Chosen at random, Boyle accurately reproduced the surface of theses chosen sites, from his own skin, to city wastelands and the Arctic Tundra.

Boyle regularly collaborated with his wife, Joan Hills, and later on with their children Sebastian and Georgia. They began exhibiting as The Boyle Family in 1985, and have continued to do so since Mark’s death in 2005. Text: Serpentine Gallery
