Sculptor, draughtsman, restorer and teacher, born in Immingham, Lincolnshire, full name Arthur Mervyn Baldwin. He studied at Grimsby School of Art, 1953–5, and Leicester College of Art, 1953–5. After working as a stonemason and at Leicester College as a caretaker/studio assistant, Baldwin gained the Prix de Rome in sculpture, 1960, then was for two years in Italy. Series of teaching appointments included principal lecturer, Newport College of Art. Was a member of 56 Group, also exhibiting at Ikon Gallery, Birmingham; Grabowski Gallery; Whitechapel Art Gallery; University College of Wales, Aberystwyth; and elsewhere, including abroad. WAC and National Museum of Wales, Cardiff, hold his work. Lived in Cardiff.
