George Wingfield Digby, The Work of the Modern Potter in England, 1952
George Wingfield Digby of Sherborne was Keeper of Textiles at the Victoria and Albert Museum from from 1947 to 1972. Over a period of 40 years he and his wife Cornelia assembled a collection of important ceramics that explored the cross-fertilisation of styles, shapes and materials between Japan, China and Europe; a development influenced in large part by the potter Bernard Leach. The examples reproduced in The Work of the Modern Potter in England reflect on the history and ethos of the Leach Pottery and include pots by Leach as well as a number of the major potters who worked alongside him. The Wingfield-Digby Collection is now in the collection of Tate St Ives.
