Picasso in Provence. The Arts Council, London, 1950

£9.00

As Helen Little observes in the catalogue to Picasso & Modern British Art, the Arts Council exhibition Picasso in Provence, which toured Britain throughout 1950, provided ‘the first major opportunity for British audiences to see Picasso’s postwar work, particularly his most recent developments in sculpture’, noting that ‘by this time Picasso’s practice was increasingly focused on the innovative ceramics he had been making in the town of Vallauris in the South of France’. 3 Twenty-one ceramic works were included in the show out of a total of 83 pieces, and ceramics were generously illustrated in the accompanying catalogue.
