1923 reprint of the 1921 first edition of this intriguing book featuring Paul Nash’s first ever book illustrations. Paper-covered boards with a paper label to upper board. Spine ends chipped and endpaper browned, but thereafter a lovely crisp copy. Former owner name neatly inked to front endpaper. A three-page foreword by the author precedes his pen-portraits of five Cotswold residents: Thesiger Crowne, The Mason , Simon Rodd, The Fisherman , Rufus Clay, The Foreigner , Pony, The Footballer , and Joe Pentifer and Son;  each one accompanied by a magnificent wood engravings by Paul Nash. These wood engravings were Nash’s first to be published as book illustrations. Drinkwater's sketches were originally printed in the periodicals 'The Sphere' and The Yale Review’. A near fine copy of this intriguing book.
