A signed copy of this rare deluxe monograph on the work of the great Hungarian-Australian artist, Judy Cassab (1920-1915). The first woman to win the coveted Art Gallery of New South Wales Archibald Prize for portraiture twice (in 1960 for a portrait of the artist Stanislav Rapotec and in 1967 for a portrait of the artist Margo Lewers) Judy Cassab was born in Vienna of Hungarian parents in 1920. She and her husband Jonchi Kampfner arrived in Australia in 1950 following the horrors of the Holocaust during which Jonchi was interned in a Nazi forced labour camp and Judy’s mother taken to Auschwitz , never to be seen of again. Judy Cassab became one of the most significant painters of her generation both in Australia and in Hungary. Examples of her work are included in most Australian State and National collections as well as National Portrait Gallery, London; National Gallery, Budapest; and the United Nations Building, Geneva.
