Eduardo Paolozzi, Lawrence Alloway and John Munday 'The Metallization of a Dream' Lion and Unicorn Press, 1963

£395.00

Designed by RCA student John Munday in collaboration with Eduardo Paolozzi and with a long commentary by Lawrence Alloway, the book was described by Paolozzi as ‘random jottings of ideas which are developed as I work on my material - the search for archetypes to aid a dream in metal.’

Bound in black calf-backed paper covered boards the covers are imprinted in silver with mechanical images based on the engineering image for Paolozzi’s sculpture Mars (1962). The endpapers printed with a double-page image of Paolozzi in the shipyards of Hamburg. Includes 4 photo-lithographs reproduced from separation drawings, and illustrated with numerous colour and monochrome illustrations of Paolozzi’s work. The text and imagery deal with many Independent Group concerns, including technology, pop culture, man and machine and the notion of representation. The collage aesthetic is sympathetic to Paolozzi's work of the period.

Published in an edition of approximately 400 copies, this copy is numbered no.260
