Kurt Schwitters ‘Auguste Bolte’ Éditions Jean Hugues, Paris, first French edition, 1967. Originally published in German in 1923. Signed and numbered. One of 1000 copies. This copy signed by the publisher and numbered 643. With a lithographic frontispiece by Max Ernst ‘Portrait of Auguste Botle’ (1967) tipped in. Ernst produced over 500 prints in various media, many of which were created as frontispieces or illustrations to his own books, as well as those by other authors. The lithograph was originally printed by Pierre Chave and published by Jean Hugues in Paris. The print was made using frottage creating a figure composed of elements taken from various materials.
