Will Grohmann (1887–1968) was a German art critic and art historian specialising in German Expressionism and abstract art. A longstanding friend of Paul Klee, Grohmann was one of the first to write appreciatively of the artist and became the leading authority on his work. The book includes 134 images, 48 of which are reproduced as large, tipped-in colour plates accompanied by individual comments from Grohmann. At the time of publication this book made available many colour images of Klee’s work from private collections which had not previously been accessible. The main introductory essay is richly illustrated in b/w and organised under sub-sections dealing with pre-Bauhaus, Bauhaus and later years.
