Yanagi Muneyoshi, (Soetsu Yanagi), “Straw Raincoats in Snow Country”, 1942, published by the Japan Folk Craft Association Kogei Editorial Office. Stencil-dyed cover designed by Shigeo Suzuki. A mino (蓑) is a traditional Japanese raincoat made out of straw. This rural garment is the subject of this important book by Yanagi Muneyoshi, the founder of the Mingei Movement. A copy of this publication is the collection of The Japan Folk Crafts Museum , Tokyo. 28 pages of text by Yanagi Muneyoshi (Soetsu Yanagi) and 14 images including 2 in colour. 

Muneyoshi (Soetsu) YANAGI (1889-1961) was a thinker, religious philosopher, and art scholar who founded the Mingei National Art Movement in Japan which later became a global movement, due in part to the influence of Soetsu’s colleagues, Bernard Leach and Shoji Hamada, who brought its philosophy to the United Kingdom in 1920. Suzuki Shigeo (1914-2003) was introduced to Soetsu Yanagi in 1935. In 1937, he studied design under Serizawa Keisuke. In 1953, he became an assistant to Bernard Leach.
