F. R. S. Yorke was a modernist architect and founder member of the MARS Group (Modern Architectural Research Group). The Modern House in England surveys a selection of Modernist houses in England, including those by fellow MARS Group architects Maxwell Fry, Erno Goldfinger and Berthold Lubetkin. The latter was commissioned as master planner and chief architect for Peterlee in 1947 but resigned from the project in 1950.
