British Furniture Today by Erno Goldfinger 1951 First Edition.
Almost 100 images including future icons of 20th Century British design by Ernest Race (Antelope Chair) and Robin Day (Festival Chair), as well as Dennis Young’s shell chair, Marcel Breuer’s plywood lounge for the Isokon building, the tubular steel Stack-A-Bye chair, and the unit case series by Robin Day and Clive Latimer for which the designers were awarded first prize at the Museum of Modern Art low-cost furniture competition in 1950. However the real value of the book lies in the lesser-known pieces of avant-garde modernism which Goldfinger selects, pointing to the cultural flowering of young design talent in post-war Britain. Examples include Neville Ward and Frank Austin; Clive Entwhistle Arcon; David Pye, Ian Bradbury; and B.M. Schottlander. The book includes a list of the names and addresses of the designers and manufacturers represented.
