This issue of Cambridge Opinion was edited by internationally acclaimed art historian and Francis Bacon expert, Michael Peppiatt. The issue is notable for the first published appearance of Michael Peppiatt’s association with the work of Francis Bacon. Peppiatt was editor of Cambridge Opinion whilst at Trinity Hall. He met Francis Bacon at the French House in Soho in 1963 when he was studying history of art at Cambridge and was planning this issue of Cambridge Opinion about modern art. Peppiatt asked for an interview and as Lynn Barber wrote in The Sunday Times in 2015 “the interview became weeks and weeks of lunches and dinners and parties and bar crawls.” Other contributors include , Frank Auerbach, Lucian Freud, R. B. Kitaj, David Hockney, Anthony Caro and Eduardo Paolozzi. 52 issues of this journal were issued between 1957 and 1968.
