Catalogue of a solo exhibition of Aubrey Williams’ work at Grabowski Gallery, London, January 3 – January 26, 1963. Important catalogue of the artist’s first solo exhibition in London since 1959. The exhibition included 17 paintings and 12 gouaches. By 1963 Williams had established a formidable career, having, since the early 1950s, exhibited in many different galleries across the UK and internationally. Includes: photograph of the artist in his studio, CV, quotes from reviews, list of works and an uncredited painting. The quotes included the following, by Marco Valsecchi, of Il Giorno, Milan, 1961: “From London but born in British Guiana - there is a young painter showing at Galleria Pater. He strongly represents his culture in expressive bright colours and aspects of barbaric violence in nature - Magma of Volcanoes, the surfaces of rocks, and the original primal formation of terrestrial creation. He also expresses the beauty and fascination of the traditional primeval legends of his country. He seems to have profound patience in the modern methods of using painting materials, without losing the qualities of a primitive world.”
