This exhibition brought many key figures of the Düsseldorf school to the United Kingdom for the first time. Most notable among them was Joseph Beuys, whom Richard Demarco had met in January 1970.
Peter Diamand, Director of the Edinburgh International Festival, wrote in his opening statement: ‘I am pleased that the 1970 Edinburgh Festival has been able to include, as part of its official programme, a major exhibition of Contemporary German art, the first to be shown in Britain since 1938.’
